ALW was started by Lance Brakefield and has been licensed and bonded to perform professional landscaping services since 1996. Prior to 1996, Lance kept busy renovating his personal yards and those of friends and family!

What kind of landscape projects does ALW specialize in and what services do you offer?

We offer full service residential and commercial landscaping throughout Northwest Washington. No job is too large or small. Please see examples of our work or contact us if you have any questions.

Where did you receive your landscape training?

Lance: I have many years of "on the job training". Three generations of my family lived and worked on the lush 15 acre Millets Gardens, at the south end of Lake Whatcom.

When I was 13 years old I started my own yard maintenance business. Even at an early age my passion for fresh air, hard work and cultivating the earth was evident.

Over 27 years of experience have taught me the basics of form, balance, foundation of color and variety of texture. I believe a landscaper either has the gift or "eye" for artistic landscapes, or they don't. The enthusiasm and desire to create true beauty with a yard comes from the heart.

What is your favorite part of a landscape project?

Lance: The most fulfilling aspect of my job is gaining a satisfied and happy homeowner at the completion of a project.

Perhaps just as important is the client who receives continued enjoyment of their new yard many years after the completion of the job (especially when they let me know about it).

Another close favorite is when a client brings our crew a snack or a cold beverage on a hot day!
